The Red Cross in Iowa is overwhelmed by the generosity of Iowans who want to help with its relief effort in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. As a result of the interest from those wanting to know how they can get involved and help support the response effort, the Red Cross is hosting community information sessions in each of its four chapters across the Iowa Region this week.
At the community information sessions attendees will learn more about the American Red Cross and its current disaster response, including its recovery effort in Texas that could last several months. Red Cross staff will also explain how Iowans can become a registered Red Cross volunteer to be ready to support the Red Cross mission the next time disaster strikes.
The central Iowa chapter will hold its community information session Thursday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 8 pm at 2116 Grand Ave in Des Moines. A dinner will be served at 5:30 pm. Persons who want more information can call 515-243-7681.
